Dungeons & Dragons' Next Magic: The Gathering Crossover Brings Lorwyn and Shadowmoor to TTRPGs
Wizards of the Coast is once again blending Magic: The Gathering with Dungeons & Dragons, but this time, instead of a card set, the crossover will be a tabletop RPG setting. Announced at MagicCon Chicago, the supplement will focus on the plane of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, a world that cyclically transforms every 300 years.
While no release date or additional details were shared, Wizards did reveal stunning concept art by Jesper Ejsing.
What is Lorwyn/Shadowmoor?
Lorwyn and Shadowmoor are two versions of the same plane, alternating between an eternal midsummer paradise and a dark, hostile landscape every three centuries.
- Lorwyn: A world of fabled races, endless summer, and mischievous magic, reminiscent of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
- Shadowmoor: A grim, twilight realm where its denizens are twisted into survival-hardened beings locked in eternal conflict.
Magic and D&D Crossovers So Far
This isn't the first time Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons have intersected:
- Adventures in the Forgotten Realms (2021) and Battle for Baldur's Gate (2022) brought D&D elements into Magic card sets.
- Several TTRPG settings have been adapted from Magic worlds, including:
- Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos (2021) – A magical university campaign setting.
- Mythic Odysseys of Theros (2020) – A Greek-mythology-inspired setting.
- Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica (2018) – A city-world filled with intrigue and politics.
- Plane Shift (2016-2018) – Free PDF supplements covering Zendikar, Innistrad, Amonkhet, Kaladesh, and Ixalan.
